Hi dear members,
I´m not sure if all of you know it, but at the moment the old imperial palace of Berlin is rebuilt!
They have already built 2 floors and in a few years Berlin will get back its heart. Sadly one side
of the palace will get a modern facade, but the rest is quite nice:
Here you can see the progress until June 2014:
Beside all the building sins of the 50s and 60s, the new german architecture politic tends to
revive the old architectural hearts of the german cities, that died between 1939 and 1945.
Cities like Berlin, Potsdam, Frankfurt, Nürnberg and especially Dresden are pioneers.
Other cities like Heilbronn gave it up completely and just made modern, unhistorical inner cities.

BILD.tv... I'm not watching this!
I usually like it when old buildings are restored... Within the last years the whole inner city of Wismar was restored which really pleased me. The communist gouvernment just let the old churches rot or deliberately destroyed them which is a shame.
In the case of Berlin I think the old palace of the republic was pulled down to make room for the yet older Prussian palace. So a part of history was removed to make it seem even more historical which I find really weird... I'm not at all a fan of communist East Germany but it's such a major part of Berlin's history especially that it seems wrong to try to get rid of it.
Also, as others mentioned: huge amounts of money are spent and you can argue whether it's reasonable.
